Something as functional as a window should be taken care of very carefully. I know I wouldn’t take the risk of only focusing on making my windows aesthetic and keep them decorated all the time without even taking regarding what is better and what could harm the ventilation in my room and neither should you. After all, you don’t want anything going wrong in your home just because you failed to replace some old window pane.
Now, onto 6 things that you might want to ignore or focus on to have a good and more than a functional window in your space.
Let’s take a look at them
1.Installation issues
While installing a window, the work must be done with precision. Sometimes, while handling the glass, its edges can get nicked or pricked causing minor cracks that often go unnoticed and later develop into bigger cracks. This can majorly reduce the lifeline of glass. That’s why I prefer licensed window installers cause let’s face it, I am no pro.
2.Too much heat
If you ever remember studying about glasses in your science class, maybe you’d see this coming. Let me get a bit into it, okay. You see glass melts very-very and very slowly by everyday normal heat exposure to the sun. This process happens so slowly that you might not even notice it but as it goes on with time, the glass becomes opaque or somewhat faded. It becomes thick or thicker at the edges as a result and might even break suddenly if not replaced. So, change your window glass regularly.
3.Pane in window
Jokes aside, it’s very important that you get the right window pane for the right thickness of the glass. If there’s not enough space left for the glass at the edges when it expands due to temperature change that can do some serious damage. Well, licensed window installers would know better.
4.Wood swelling
Dampness and high humidity can make it hard to open or close the wood window. Their spring mechanism might fail as well. So, keep a check on them.
5.Rust may bust
Keep a check for rust on the hinges and screws. They might get unnoticed by you but not by some burglar. Keep yourself safe by getting them changed whenever necessary.
6.Clay issue
Yes, there are places where glasses are kept attached to the pane by using some kind of clay or a similar stronger material. That material can sometimes get damages leaving the sill exposed and can fall anytime. However, this method is often used in some low budget or underdeveloped area cases but I wouldn’t recommend it.
These are just a few points that I can convey. So make sure that you keep them in mind. Before I leave, while you redecorate, you don’t want too much of a reflexive glass cause that can burn down your entire space. So, don’t take windows and glasses for granted.
Have a safe space.
